Elevate is a wellness-focused lifestyle brand located in the San Francisco Bay Area, whose mission is to de-stigmatize cannabis use while educating and empowering women on their self-care and self-love journey. Below is an interview I conducted with Elevate’s founders, Ginny Leung and Lian Zi Liu.
What is your history with cannabis and how has it led you to founding Elevate?
Ginny: My history with cannabis only began last year. After having my second son in May, I started experiencing postpartum. I was not prepared. While struggling to take care of both boys, I began to feel depressed and anxious. I was confused and defeated, becoming someone I didn’t recognize anymore. I felt so ashamed when my children were present. I was sad, and I didn’t know why.
I needed something to change. I started seeing a therapist and was prescribed antidepressants. I did not agree with the side effects I was experiencing and began researching alternatives. I found cannabis, and it worked. CBD rich tinctures and low dose edibles were recommended for me, and the results were so compelling. I found myself enjoying my children, being present, and caring for myself again. Cannabis propelled me into a journey of self-care, spirituality, and self-discovery. Cannabis has been so positive and life-changing for me, I want to share how it can also help others who are seeking an alternative. This magical plant is the inspiration for Elevate.
Lian: I have a bit more of a complicated history with cannabis, in that as a teen and young adult, it was something that I used as an act of rebellion and as an escape. I had been exposed to it for years, but I never really took the time to learn about the wellness aspects, the differences between the strains, and the kind of health benefits I can receive if I took the time to find the right strain or product for myself. Looking back though, even unknowingly, cannabis was something I used at the time to alleviate stress and to ease the side effects from the prescription medications that I was taking.
This all changed after the birth of my daughter. I began to turn to cannabis again, at first, it was for postpartum restless leg syndrome. But this time, I started to see cannabis through different eyes. I began learning more about it, diving into the wellness culture, and its history. Cannabis sparked a passion in me that I never knew I had, and with the new knowledge, using cannabis tapped into a part of me that I was not able to get in touch with before. Cannabis is our inspiration for Elevate. Our own journeys into wellness and self-care are our inspirations for Elevate.
What inspired Elevate to develop a subscription box?
Elevate is based on the idea that life should lift more than your stress and cortisol levels. We are a cannabis lifestyle brand featuring a wellness-themed subscription box along with a capsule collection of wellness products, accessories, and athleisure wear designed with the balance-seeking, modern cannabis-loving woman in mind. We created Elevate as the brand we needed in our lives.
What sort of products or themes will be included in the boxes?
Designed to be used with cannabis, each box is a complete immersive journey to help you find your center. We collaborate with local tastemakers and businesses to develop a chosen wellness theme for each box with a guided audio journey of meditation and self-reflection. Each box will contain products selected for a fully elevated sensory experience; taste, smell, touch, see and listen. For example;
Taste: Herbal teas, gourmet mints, raw cacao bites
Smell: Essential oils, candles, luxurious aromatherapy accessories
Touch: Massage oils and stones
See: Elegant accessories

What are the subscription details, i.e. price, frequency of box releases, number of products in box?
A chosen wellness theme will be announced quarterly and will ship out later in the month for $89. Each box will contain 5 to 6 different products along with a guided audio meditation that weaves together all of the products for a fully immersive experience.
